“Before we bought a RIPit Computer to Plate System we produced work the way many
printers do now. We had a black plate camera for shooting reflective art and bought all
our negatives from a service bureau. As more and more customers brought us disks our
service bureau cost continued to rise, and I knew we had to do something. I looked at
a lot of different systems and was ready to make a purchase when a friend suggested I
look at the RIPit System.
It didn’t take me long to decide. In fact, my only hesitation was my fear that I was over
looking something. In comparison to comparable systems the price seemed too low for
the value and there must be a catch. Well, there wasn’t. We purchased one. Installation
was simple because of the smaller size of the unit and because it only requires 110 volts.
Also, the processor detaches from the system, se we roll it to the sink to clean instead
of a more time consuming process for a stationary machine.
All of us, including the press operators, found the software very simple to use, and the
RIPit became a central part of our production right away. It has enabled us to quickly
turn out quality 2-color and 4-color work on our Ryobi Press. We’ve all but eliminated
one employee. In terms of cost, what we were paying at the service bureau was not only
enough to cover the RIPit lease payment but, also the lease payment on my cutter and
booklet maker. Just as important, we have greater control over our production, so when
we need something right away, we don’t travel to service bureau and pay a rush fee.
We simply output it. If we find a mistake on something we simply fix it and re-output
the plate. For our shop, the decision to purchase a RIPit CtP System was definitely the
way to go.”
