April 28, 2005 LOS ANGELES RIPit® Computer Corp. and partner Exxtra today announce
the successful installation of the new SpeedSetter VM Computer-to-Plate (CTP) System with
award-winning OpenRIP Symphony workflow at Staten Island, NY-based Westerleigh Press.
According to Jim Glover, president of Westerleigh, the 84-year old full-service commercial
print shop was able to produce “print perfect violet metal plates from day one”, and hasn’t
stopped since. Since installing the system in March 2005, and with no prior CTP experience,
Westerleigh has produced over 800 plates and reduced production time by 2-1/2 hours a day.
In fact, Glover says he didn’t anticipate getting to 700 plates per month until May, and he’s
exceeded that expectation in just a little over a month.
Says Glover, “We’re busier than we’ve ever been and the SpeedSetter VM Platesetter and
OpenRIP Symphony workflow is a key component in maintaining a smooth flow of production.
Originally we had hoped that the SpeedSetter would help us catch up, which it did instantly,
and we are now more profitable than ever before.”
Westerleigh produces 2-and 4-color print jobs on Heidelberg and Ryobi presses. Westerleigh
Press offers full service prepress, printing, cutting, and bindery for small, medium, and
large-sized businesses, including everything from envelopes and business cards to full color
catalogs. Its Westerleigh Concepts group specializes in direct mail design and production.
“What is shocking to me is that this system has not only met my expectations, which I set
very high, but has exceeded them,” says Glover . “I sometimes end up disappointed because
I set the bar so high, but with RIPit’s SpeedSetter VM CtP System, I was blown away.”
The SpeedSetter VM is a simple to use, easy to service and reliable CTP system, and it's
compatible with all common 2-up portrait and landscape presses on the market. The
SpeedSetter VM is capable of imaging all violet plates available on the market today, and
the optional plate processor can process all the available photopolymer plates. The
SpeedSetter VM plate-setter is part of a complete turnkey CTP system, which includes the
industry-leading OpenRIP Symphony Workflow.
For Westerleigh Press, one of the most attractive features of the SpeedSetter VM System
was the front-end RIP. “The OpenRIP Symphony RIP makes this system even more powerful.
I had every confidence the system would work because this RIP has a track record in
driving polyester platesetters since 1990. It’s proven.”
The RIPit SpeedSetter VM Platesetters with OpenRIP Symphony workflow is a compact, easy
to use and powerful turnkey CTP system, which mainstream commercial and quick printers
can afford. “The SpeedSetter VM is a great investment. The time we’ve saved in production
and improved quality of our make-readies alone has been worth it. We’ve eliminated so
many issuesin our production that we’re literally going from prepress to press in minutes.
We’re just flying, production-wise, now.”
